It is due to the fact that only moving parts in the engine works while you are stopped. The rough idle issue is related to the engine so that you can focus on that area. But the main trouble is that the engine is very complicated therefore it is very difficult to find the exact cause of the car vibrates.

Common Reasons Your Car Shakes When Stopped:

(1) Dirty or Clogged Fuel Injectors:

The fuel injectors get clogged with the passage of time due to carbon deposits, varnish or other materials. As a result, it causes uneven distribution of fuel being delivered with each engine cycle. When this occurs your vehicle will shake, vibrate or shutter while idling the constant flow of fuel in the cylinder is being interrupted. Clogged fuel injectors need to be cleaned at regular intervals or in bad condition needed to be replaced. Cleaning of the throttle which controls the volume of air and fuel mixture is also recommended and throttle body cleaners are also available in the market.

(2) Worn or Dirty Spark Plug:

The worn spark plug is also another cause of your vehicle vibrating when stopped. Carbon deposits and dirt build-up will not allow your spark plugs to fire normally to ignite the fuel. This leads to the mis-firing of the engine which will feel like the vehicle is shaking at stopped.

(3) Disconnected Vacuum Hose:

It happens more than you think, vacuum hose in the engine may disconnect while driving or accidentally disconnected when working on your vehicle. When the hose gets losses, it causes the engine to shake and even stall out.

(4) Torn or Cracked Timing Belt:

Timing belt which is stretched, torn and partially cracked can also cause your vehicle to shake. If a timing belt is torn then it has to be your first priority to repair timing belt, if your vehicle timing belt completely tore it can cause serious damage to the engine. It is very crucial to follow the guidelines of the auto manufacturer when it comes to the timing belt replacement intervals.

(5) Dirty Air Filter:

With the interrupted fuel supply, if your engine air intake is interrupted, it can also lead to the engine vibration of your vehicle and vehicles don’t run as smoothly as it should be. When the air filter is worn out, not enough air pass through the air filter and the low volume of the air reaches the combustion chamber which is a clear indication that the vehicle will work under power.
