Top 5 Reasons Your Car is Shaking

When you are behind the wheels, you expect a smooth ride as you drive on the road. However, sometimes you may feel like your vehicle is shaking and vibrating a lot on the road. You should investigate the reasons behind this. Here are 5 possible reasons for the vibrating car.

•    Lack of Fuel, Spark or Air

If you realize that your car is shivering from its engine compartment, it could be because it is not getting sufficient spark, fuel or air for its smooth running. When such shaking happens, you may notice symptoms like jerking or shuddering when you press down the accelerator, or it may start ok and then it starts shaking after a short while.

These symptoms may indicate that you need to change the spark plugs. If they are fine, probably the wires need to be checked or replaced. However, if they do not turn out to be at fault, it could be due to a clogged filter or dirty air filter which is starving your engine of fuel or oxygen.

•    Worn Out Parts

There are several components of the vehicle that cause shaking if they get worn out or damaged. For instance, if the axle is bent in an accident, you will find your car vibrating afterward and that wobbling will only intensify as you drive faster.

The driveshaft is another part of your vehicle that could cause shaking if it gets bent. In the same way, other parts could also get worn out. It is recommended to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic.

•    Brake Problems

If you have noticed that your car only shakes when you apply the brakes, then the possibility is that you have a problem with the brakes. It could be due to warped brake rotors.  You should take your vehicle to a brake specialist.

•    Wheel Hubs or Bearings

If you feel the car vibration through the steering wheel, you may blame an alignment problem; however, that is not always the case. Sometimes wheels have excessive wobbliness at their hub and identifying why it is happening is not as easy as you might hope.

The reasons for the problem could range from simple improperly torqued lug nuts to a bit more complex like runout. Wheels are one of the most common culprits when it comes to vibrating vehicles so checking it should be your priority.

•    Tires

In most cases, the number one reason for vibrating cars has to be tire problems, and there are many reasons why your tires could be causing the shaking and wobbling every time you take to the motorway. However, you can take different steps: rotate your tires if they are wearing out unevenly, and replace them if they roll unevenly.  In the same way, you can take steps according to the situation.
