5 Warning Signs of Car Brake Problems You Should Never Ignore

Car Brakes are an important component of the vehicle safety system.  It is necessary to take care of the brakes to ensure a safe ride.

Unsurprisingly, brake problems are some most common issues facing most vehicle owners since the braking system consists of many parts like brake pads, brake shoes, rotors, master cylinder, and others. Some of these parts require the most frequent replacements while others require less.

The braking system of the car gives clear signals that your brakes need attention. Here are the 5 most common signs of car brake problems.

•    Brake Lights On

Dashboard lights can give your signals about the condition of your vehicle.  The brake light works in the same way and it can indicate that you are due for an inspection. When the red or yellow indicators light up it means your car is due for an inspection.

The lighting could also be due to an engaged parking brake. Be sure it is fully released and will not be a major issue for you.

•    Wobbling or vibration when braking

Shivering in the steering wheel or vibration when you apply the brakes could be the result of an uneven rotor.

Over time it is normal for the rotor surface to get minor variations. Rust may also appear. During the servicing of the rotor, the face of the rotor is often trued to correct these flaws.

•    Leaking Fluid

In case you are experiencing a soft brake pedal, you should contact a service technician to look for fluid leaking from mast cylinder or anywhere else in the brake system.

The fluid is used to create hydraulic pressure. If it is leaking, there may not be enough power to force the brake pads to clamp hard to the rotors.

•    Car Pulling to One Side When Braking

If the car pulls to one side when braking, it could be due to a brake hose has gone bad or a caliper problem. One brake caliper could be exerting or all the pressure during braking, resulting in unbalanced stopping.

•    Burning Smell While Driving

The problem with your brake may also appear in the form of burning smell. A sharp, chemical odor after repeated hard braking on steep roads is a sign that your clutch or brakes are overheated. Stop your car immediately, check the parking brake to make sure that it is fully released and allow the brakes to cool. Failing to do so may result in the brake fluid getting heated up to boiling which may cause brake failure.
