5 Common Causes of Engine Misfire

Are you worried that your car is misfiring? It is one of the most common problems in modern car engines. It is due to the critical role of spark plugs.

There can be many reasons behind the misfire of an engine. Here are a few causes of an engine misfire.

·        Bad Spark Plug

Probably you are aware of the importance of the spark plugs in the gas engines. These plugs may also cause engine misfire. Spark plugs have the job to fire up your cylinders, and they can get worn out over time. These are not that expensive and it is easy to replace them.  Replace them if the time has come.

·        Intake Manifold Gasket Leaks

Another common reason behind engine misfire is intake leaks near the cylinder heads. So, check for the leaks around the intake manifold gasket or intake. Check for broken vacuum hoses.

·        Low Fuel Pressure

Low fuel pressure is another reason behind engine misfire. It could be caused by a defective fuel pump, a faulty fuel pressure regulator or a clogged fuel filter. If you think that the cylinders are experiencing misfires, you should check your fuel pressure.

·        Injector Problem

Injector problem can cause engine misfires. A faulty fuel injector will cause your engine to misfire. However, these can be difficult without flow testing them.

·        Low compression/ Damage Inside the Engine

Have you checked everything else? If you have it is most likely you have low compression or other damage inside of your car engine. Low pressure could also be due to a faulty timing belt. Make sure this is correct.
